New Zealand Intellectual Property Attorneys Inc

Welcome

New Zealand Intellectual Property Attorneys Inc was established in 1912 as The New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys Inc. In 2021 we changed our name to better reflect the composition of our membership.

We are an incorporated body representing most trans-Tasman registered Patent Attorneys who are resident and practising in New Zealand. Our membership also includes Australian registered Trade Mark Attorneys and IP lawyers resident and practising in New Zealand.

Patent and trade mark attorneys operate in the global arena across all sectors of industry to assist businesses in their key markets and to use intellectual property (IP) systems for strategic advantage.

Patent and trade mark attorneys are qualified to advise on all intellectual property rights including trade marks, designs, and copyright. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of practice for trans-Tasman patent attorneys and Australian trade marks attorneys.

NZIPA:

  • advocates in New Zealand and Australia to advance IP rights
  • runs a Council of 9 members elected by Fellows of the Institute
  • provides educational programmes to not only its members but the general public
  • offers information and support to its members.

More information about IP, what NZIPA does, and how we do it, can be accessed through this website.
